Communing With Geese!

A brief vignette shows us the value of taking a minute to "commune with the geese"!

I’m not a big fan of Canada Geese, having had their messy presence in my yard when I lived in a townhouse here on Lake Anne. Matter-of-fact, they were among the top 10 reasons I moved to my 12th floor condo, also on the lake.  I can see ‘em now, but I don’t have to walk in the yard after they’ve been there!

That said, I must admit that they hold a certain attraction to those who don’t have them in their back yards!

I was out on my balcony this morning, enjoying the view. Down at one end of my view is Lake Anne Plaza: shops, stores, restaurants and steps down to the water. A little girl was walking along the plaza with her father and had just started down the steps by herself. She got to the next to last step when her father called for her to come back. Instead, she sat down on the next-to-last step. Before her was a pair of Canada Geese, and she had decided that it was time to sit down and enjoy them.

The scene reminded me of how important it is for us to "take time to smell the roses"…or in this case, to commune with the geese! We are so wrapped up in our business, so in touch thanks to today’s technology that we need to make an effort to take some time to enjoy life.

One of my CyberStars(tm) recently posted the following to our group.  Her entire post concerned what she resolved to do in 2008 based on her 2007 business performance.  Here are two of her "resolutions," submitted by Allen F. Hainge CyberStar(tm) Linda DeVlieg of Coldwell Banker Legacy, Albuquerque, NM:

"I’m going to have a few days which I will refer to as "Timothy Leary"
days.  I’m going to simply drop out once in a while, take off and leave business behind.  Oof course I will tell my team agents, but these will be days that I choose not to think about real estate, check into things, or even care. Too often I am constantly running with the "ON" switch, and it’s so much nicer to drop out once in a while.
This is another thing that I have noticed over the last year: this never seems to make a negative difference in the scheme of things.

"I’m going to start reading a book a month. Since now I read none,
this is a huge goal!"

Take a moment to check and see if you have taken any time to commune with the geese lately.  If not, do….just don’t let them into your yard!  :-)

It’s a beautiful day here on the lake in Reston…hope it’s a beautiful day/evening wherever you are, too!
