Point2 Interview
Some of the main points from my online interview with Point2, a dynamic Web site system
Today, I had the priviledge of being interviewed online by Point2, a very complete marketing platform for real estate professionals. Their service provides a Web site, followup campaigns for Web leads, blogs….and much, much more. You can check them out at www.Point2.com.
One of the questions I was asked during the interview was, "What is the primary piece of advice you would offer an agent who wants to succeed in today’s world of real estate?"
Here is a summary of my response:
- Treat your business like a business. Avoid the typical real estate culture that is predominant in most offices. You are in business for yourself. If you see yourself as a businessperson, you will plan and execute accordingly.
- Associate with the winners, not the whiners. Attend every convention you can and have as a goal meeting the winners. Form a nationwide networking group using a service such as GoToMeeting. Get together online using such a service and trade ideas, tips and techniques.
- Understand and use the technology that today’s consumers demand. The list includes:
- A personal Web site
- An area or neighborhood blog
- A real estate specific database
- Multiple photos and virtual tours for every listing
- Digital camera
- PDA
- Tablet computer
- Stop trying to do it all! You can’t do it all anyway and run a good business. The Chairman of Coca-Cola does not stock the shelves at the local Safeway.
Instead, he uses other people to do those tasks. His job is to provide direction and systems for his company. So, get a virtual assistant! A VA works for other agents and for you, and he/she can set up the systems you need in order to be successful. He/she can do the things you don’t have time to do, thereby making you money over and above what he/she charges. A good source for finding a VA and for learning more about what they do is IREAA, the International Real Estate Assistant Association.
- Realize that real estate is only one part of your life. Like to travel? Like to golf or fish? Like to give to your community? Want to spend time with your family? These are the important things in life, the things that make you alive and interesting. Don’t neglect them!
It’s a beautiful day here on the lake in Reston…hope it’s a wonderful day wherever you are, too!
