Does Your Communication Method Meet Your Custormer’s Needs?
Email, text messaging, instant communications...today's consumer demands them!
One
of my CyberStars(r), Kathy Drewien of North Atlanta Realty Group, Atlanta, GA, posted the following on our private CyberStar(r) list serve. It’s a great example of meeting the needs of today’s consumer, something that the CyberStars(r) are very good at.
"I was interviewed this week for an upcoming article on working with specific generational groups. My target group is under-30. The journalist also contacted a couple of my young clients for their input. I thought you might be interested in the response to one of the questions. The question was, ‘How did you communicate with Kathy throughout the home search process (email, text message, phone, etc)?’ In addition, they asked, ‘What is most convenient communication method for you?’
"Here is their response: ’This was one area that totally surprised me. People of my generation (Generation Y) rely so much on email and text messages, both for the sheer convenience and time-saving ability. I was totally shocked when Kathy sent us a text message. This wasn’t necessarily because of the age difference, but more so because of the generational difference. Just as I don’t communicate with my parents through text messages, I didn’t expect Kathy to even know how to send one. Throughout the entire process, we communicated by phone, email, texting, and comments on her web page. Whatever was easiest for us, Kathy obliged.’
There is a lesson for all agents in Kathy’s experience: many, if not most of your buyers and sellers have a different frame of reference than the older agent does. Do you text message? Can you post information and listing previews to your Web site? Are you constantly in touch via available technologies?
Real estate has changed. The CyberStars(r) recognize that change and have adapted to it. I hope you have, too!
It’s a great day here on the lake in Reston…hope it’s a great day wherever you are, too!
